My 67 Camaro (I know not a chevelle but more exposure here)is having a wierd problem. It will all the sudden die at idle or when driving. Some times it will not turn over and it will have no power to the ignition switch at the dash, other times it just looses power to the coil. I have not gotten into trouble shooting this yet. I have found the wigling the wires at the junction block behind the battery will correct the problem. I can wiggle them and nothing happens when it it running. Has anyone had a problem like this? I am going to start at the juction block and start replacing terminal ends and checking continutiy for broken wires. I don't have a wiring diagram for the car. Can some one tell me where the coil power comes from? I think it is from the starter solinoid, but I am not sure. This car has been sitting for 5 years and I just got it running this last weekend, the harness is all original, meaning it is not all cut up and spliced into so I don't have to worry about some hack electrical job to fix. Thanks in advance.

I would run a volt meter to your BAT terminal on the fuse box and drive the car and when it dies, check to see if you have power. If you do then it's got to be in your ignition switch, if not, I would trace for power going from the battery along to the junction block to the horn relay, to the voltage regulator, and then to the fuse box. Also check for good grounds everywhere.

My Chevelle does this when the there is a bad contact where the main harness (not engine harness) plugs into the firewall. I'm not sure about the Camaro, my 65 Chevelle doesn't have a junction block behind the battery. Are you talking about where the horn relay is? There are lots of places the bad contact can be. Do your headlights work when the car is acting up? They are a helpful diagnostic, because they draw a fair amount of current, but are not keyed to the ignition. Good luck... Carl

I will have to check these areas, thanks for the input. I was checking the wiring from the battery to the harness juction block, this is the terminal that the lead from the positve battery cable attaches to on the core support behind the battery. It was loose and the lug was bad. I fixed this but after the car was running (warmed up) it died again. I have not checked anything with a meter yet. Does anyone know what the reading should be between fusable links? I have 2 of them and want to make sure they are good.
