I finished installing my new carpet, Corbeau Sport Seats and Andover 3pt seat belts.

While I was at it, I POR'd the floor, fixed some holes, painted the dash, FINALLY installed the dash pad, and insulated under the new carpet.

Thanks to BB_Mike and Uncle for the great ideas.

Here's the pics:

Very nice. Would those Andover belts work in a 71 El Camino? Where did you get them/what did they cost? Right now I have '92 S-10 belts but they were junk yard specials and don't always retract.

They'll work fine. Chad Landry just did these belts in his '68 El Camino. Do a search, I think it was a few weeks ago.

I paid about $190, but that included the 3 rear seat lap belts as well.

Looks awesome, David! Very nice work.

They work fine in my El Camino. Total cost to my door was $144 for the pair.

I'll take pics after I install the headliner so you can see how they look in my car.

Mine have long extensions on the ends. It makes 'em work better for a bench seat because it keeps the belt from wearing on the edge of the vinyl, but after seeing David's, I wish I'd gotten them without the extensions.

Above you can see the aforementioned extension. The belt is very comfortable this way. It just doesn't look so good.

This shows how the pillar mount looks using the original top threaded hole.

Chad,

I don't know how you'd like it, but look at my picture. I slit the carpet and put the bracket for the belt under the retractor and ran the bolt through that. Might look a little better if it bothers you.

Thanks for the tip. I'm close by Andover here in MD. If I get a working seat belt, my wife might let my kids ride with me. CJLandry, what was the kit number or part number for what you have? Also, I plan on buckets in the future. Will the same seatbelts work with bench and buckets?

I don't have the receipt handy to give you the number. I just called them, told them what I have, and they packaged and shipped it to me.

I see no reason why this wouldn't work with buckets.

I know they have some with removeable plastics on the buckle side. It would probably be a good idea to get that so that when you upgrade to buckets you'll be able to put the plastic cover back on. That way you won't have to scrounge for the buckle everytime you get in the car.

I also did this conversion in my Elky (just moved them over to my new 70)

I bought the Juliano's 3pt setup though, like BB_mike- Here is how i have my retractor mounted:
3pt retractor in Elky (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/ahsom69-belts2.jpg)

I bolted it straght to the floor pan w/ a big retaining plate underneath.

This made for a much cleaner install, IMO.

Good luck! I love having 3points in mine, feels much safer.(hopefully is too! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif )

Ben, looks great! The reason I didn't do that though is that I wanted to use the stock mounting holes. I originally thought of doing the same thing, but didn't want to weld, etc.

Actually, the installation is pretty easy, looks clean to me, and it's still easy to get into the back seat.

It is nice having them though. I feel safer already, having hit my head on the wheel several times with the old lap belts with the idiot drivers out there.

You know Mike, that stuff kills brain cells, and besides, would'nt you like to remember who you are once in a while... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually, this is all your fault. If you hadn't done such a stellar job, I wouldn't have done mine.

Just a couple of suggestions. I would paint the brackets to match the carpet/seat color so they don't stand out with the gold finish. Also, I would put two slits in the carpet so that the bolt was covered. You could access the bolt by removing the sill plate and then reinstall the plate after tightening the seat belt bolt.

Brian,

Good suggestion. I was actually going to pull them off this weekend to paint them, but hadn't thought of slitting the carpet and putting that under. Well, I was halfway there...
