What is this thing? I took my rear seat out (and everything else in the interior) to update the color, and noticed this weird silver thing behind the seat. What the heck it it / what's it for?

There's pictures up here from two slightly different angles:
left (http://www.cloudmaster.com/cloudmaster/chevelle/interior/2003_03_02/img_1679.jpg)
straight (http://www.cloudmaster.com/cloudmaster/chevelle/interior/2003_03_02/img_1678.jpg)

They're too big to stick in the thread here, though they're only about 100K each. I used to be on a dial-up too, though... smile.gif

On a related note, what's up with this piece (http://www.cloudmaster.com/cloudmaster/chevelle/interior/2003_03_02/img_1676.jpg) on the bottom part of the rear seat being blue? The car was originally light green, and the interior was green. According to the build sheet in the glovebox *and* the matching one tha tI found under the front seat today (the one in the glovebox was in much better condition), anyway. ;) I wonder if that was just extra material, or what. It's definately that bright blue that was an available interior color...

silver can is part of the gas vapor recovery system. I have also seen the difference in color on seat cushions, possibly dyed at the factory or the way the cover was made? I never gave it any thought.

Is there any problem with me just yanking that silver canister out of there? Or will my wife suddenly become just another '70s pollution-mobile driver, bent on destroying the world as we know it? smile.gif

Yepper its the gas vapor recovery system, and has fuel lines runing thru. Not a good idea to mess with. If i remember right it serves to help prevent vapor lock?? not gonna bet the farm on that tho.

So is that gonna give me a hassle when I drop the fuel tank in order to install the new fuel level sending unit (cursed AutoMeter using some screwy gauge in their streetrod kits)?

I should really just crawl under the car and see what's going on with it, I guess. Sigh.

No. It should not be a problem for you. Just be aware that the vapor lines from the tank also run up into the Fuel Standpipe assembly. Not all models used the vents. Just check you fuel tank. There should be a small 3/8 fuel line on the left and right corners closest the rear seat. It would be a great time to replace those lines with new. Just cuz your there.
