OK, heres the deal. I love my 69 SS396 but I have recently came upon a once in a lifetime deal...1970 Chevelle SS454 LS-6 450hp, 4-speed, black w/ white stripes, cowl hood, 300mi since resto 9 yrs. ago, garage kept since. If this is legit, which I think it is due to the fact that this s from a reputable source, I would sell my car in a heartbeat. My question is would you? Also what would be a good asking price for an original 69 Velle SS396 non-org. motor but orignal 4-speed in really good condition(also ford 9")? One last thing, what is an org. LS-6 worth? Thanks to all.

20-35K for a decent LS6 depending on condition, numbers, quality of resto and, of course, documentation.

Your car 4-8K depending on same things.

Just my somewhat educated guess.

I have to say that I would be lookin for a buyer if it were my 69. But thats just because the '70 454 LS-6 is my dream car http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif. I agree with the 20-35K for an original. Don't know about the 69, though. If it is truely legit, I say go for it! Good luck, you lucky dog.

If my financial situation allowed, I would be coming to see your 69. It all depends on whether or not you can afford two hobby cars, if you have room to garage two cars, or if you can find time to work on both cars. Personally, I plan to hunt down an SS 396 car, 69 or 70 model, at some point in the future, but I plan to hang onto my 71 as well. It all depends on what your own situation will allow.

20-35k is about right but there are good examples out there for less. The right options on a LS6 makes a difference in the price as well.4-speed,factory gauges, bucket seats, console, cowl induction. These are the most desirable and a LS6 with these options will bring a lot more then a bench seat column shift auto with idiot lights. It sounds like the car your talking about is set up nice. With a build sheet, original engine, and clean body I figure I would pay around 25K.The car might bring up to 35K or better but its all about how high your willing to go.
I am biased to the LS6 so I would sell the 69.

Sorry, I forgot to mention what he wants for the car...$11,000. Also I was thinking of my car being worth lmore like $13,000+ because 2 years ago it was appraised at $11,500 w/ a blown engine and tranny and a huge dent and one big rust hole which are all now fixed. And of course if money allowed I would get both but I am an 18 yr. old college student w/ limited garage access being 7.5 hours form home. Of course the LS-6 will live in the garage.

for 11k I would tend to believe it's not an original LS6, or the guy selling it has no clue.

IF they only want $11K for the car, IMEDIATELY give them a ( or MY ) down payment to hold the car WITH the written agreement that if it's not the car he says (original) you can get your deposit back. Then start your investigation. I would even hire a real expert to check it out. If it's real ( #'s matching not a clone) you can make a quick $10 - $20K profit on the car.

Also, here is what I was thinking about your question before you posted the price.
What do you want the car for ???
From your description it is a show car trailer queen ( or a total fake or stolen car that's been hiding under a cover in someone garage). Do you want a car to drive or a show car/ trailer queen??? If the car is legit, I don't think you will want to use it even as a "good weather" cruiser.

Keep us posted on this. If the car is real and you get it for $11K you just got the steal of the century and best found in a barn story yet.

One more comment, your definition of "original" and mine are very different. Your car is a real SS396 car but the word original does not apply after the motor is replaced AND a F**d 9" rear added. ( I'm not trying to start an argument, just pointing out the difference in definitions for "original".

OK, my definition of original(I should say originally) means that it is just not your everyday Malibu, It was an orignally built SS396 from the factory. My opinion is that you should build a car the way you want it, ot how GM wants it. Now a restorer could easily return my car to original if desired. It is not all hacked up, just bolt in stuff. Also the original #'s matching 4-speed is still in my car, It is hard to keep a same muscle car engine for 30+yrs. I do believe it is a factory replacement because it is a 69 block w/ 4-speed code. Also the F**D 9"(sorry to use it earlier but I have nothing against them, I have had 3) I did not swap it in. I personally would have left the 12 bolt but ome people like that stuff. As far as the LS-6, I think the guy's wife says either the car goes or he goes. So he may or may not know what its worth, but im not going to be the one to tell him.

A LS6 for $11,000!!!!!Kindly email me the guys number if you decide you don't or can't afford it!I find it almost impossible to believe that he doesn't know what he has!BIG QUESION=Does the car have documentation like a build sheet?SECOND=Is the motor the original one from the factory?Forget about the second question its still worth it without the original motor as long as it has documentation proving it a real LS6 car.Keep us posted!!!

Right now dont know much info as far as build sheet or the like. I am pretty certain it is the original engine. I have not talked to the guy, it is my dads friend, so I am going through my dad. I only found out about this 10:30 last night so...give me some time

I would keep the '69, and I would buy another Velle that I can drive at all time. I would not spend any money on a car that I could not enjoy by driving it. Kind of doubt that this is an original LS6 with the $11K price tag, but if it is, buy it, then sell it for $25K and get two other Chevelles that you can drive and enjoy.
Just my opinion.

I say go look at the car and bring a pen and paper copy all numbers ie block, vin and so on decode em and find out if it is all oe. if it is go to bank asap and give some money down on it or all at once and then try selling the 69. if it don't sell you get two!!!! I think almost anyone would take a ls6 chevelle if they had the money and place to store it

good luck

OK, small update...Guy has had it for 19yrs., all #'s matching original engine and so on, I am still waiting on the vin, cowl #'s, and # on front pad of block, if these all check out, I will be on the next plane outta here to get it. 200 miles since resto 9 years ago, he also has an old vette for sale and a 69 velle that is not for sale. I think he knows what his car is worth, but doesnt realize it is worth that much. I think he needs some space and something has to go. He is over it. He never drives it. Trying to sell my car soon, I am bringing it to the Charlotte auto fair this week to try and sell it.

If you are in the Charlotte area, you can get the LS-6 car appraised by James Hinshaw out of Burlington. He has been restoring and selling parts and services for Chevelles for years. 336-226-8242. Go for it man!!!!!! Let us know how it turns out.
