Gentlemen ( did a search, lots of good info. not sepcifically what I need ). Could someone please tell me the level of difficulty ( or possiblity ) of converting a 1968 dash to a 1969?...and any tricks, tips etc. I need to know if the steel underneath the visible dash part is the same shape.

That's all I need. Read on if curious ( or furious ). I know the '68 guys are already livid, but please bear with me. I always wanted a 1969 convertible SS 396 ( clone is fine ). I can't find one with original quarters in my price range and under 1 000 miles from where I live. So, I am considering increasing my chances of landing one by looking at 1968's as well. I have bumpers, grills, quarter extensions, fenders, emblems etc., and dash bezel, for a conversion. So, what I think I need is information. Thanks, hope nobody is offended.

I think the only real issue is the ignition switch (on dash in 68, on steering colunm on 69),
I don't believe the metal changed at all.

So to do it right, you would need a 69 steering column as well, plus the wiring changes to accommidate it.

By trying to turn a 68 into a 69 you also would have to deal with the bumpers, rear quarter panels (becuase of the bumper difference),and 68 vent wings, plus the molding differences. I dont think just changing the quarter extensions would look right.

I always thought it would be cool to stick the front clip from a 70-72 ss elky on a 68/69 car. I bet that would get some weird looks.

Thanks Gene...I do have all that other stuff because I have a 69 parts car. My first choice is to buy a proper 69 convertible. As devotees of this special interest of ours will know, they can be fairly difficult to find. Thanks for the interest and help. R.B.
