I had to pull my dash out so I thought I would freshen it up with some black paint and a silver paint pen to paint aroung gauges.
Is there a good black paint to use on the dash? Is it semi-gloss, hi-gloss or (I don't think it's flat black)
Also the paint used on the dash pad and the rest of the dash? What kind? Rustoleum?
Any help would be appreciated.

i used SEM Landau black. it was a great match. for example i didnt paint the glove box door and you cant tell the difference. i have used this product begore and if you clean the plastic right before you use it it works perfect.

also to touch up around the radio, switches, etc. i used a model paint "chrome" with a tiny brush. i should say my wife did, she has a very steady hand, practiced on the old dash and did an outstanding job.

I used SEM Satin Black. To me, the Landau Black was a little too shiny. The satin was flatter. I know a lot of people have used the Landau...

If I were to do this again, I would mask off the whole dash and spray the "chrome" border that goes around the whole dash. It was hard to do with the silver pen, and didn't come out as good as I had hoped. The ouline of the gauges and the letters for the lights and wipers came out great, though.

I also used the Landau Black and think it looks great. Also, I never quite liked the look of the painted-on silver around the bezels, so I just left it all black and I like the look better (obviously, not concerned about originality). Just another option.

gigem - How did you go about painting the lettering? Just curious as this task is on my long list of things to do.

get a brush, get very little paint on it, hold hte bristles almost parrallel to the dash, maybe a 10 degree angle or so, and brush the tops of hte letters, as long as you dont point hte bristles down, just the top edge of the letters will get painted, works perfectly.

I just finished my dash in June. I used the SEM sand free, plastic prep then Landau black per SEM's intructions. I first stripped the dash with easy off oven cleaner. I used a Krylon Silver Leafing pen I found at Hobby Lobby to do the trim. The results are outstanding. I've received many compliments on the dash. I have an excellent original chrome lettered a/c blockoff plate and it does not look any better than the dash trim I did with the silver leafing pen.
I found pretty much all of these tips on this site by doing searches.
