How can I tell if I have a Monte Carlo dash in my 1970? Where are the "slots/holes" and how many are there?

The holes are in the face of the dash. They are where the Monte Carlo's wood facing was attached. Not sure how many holes there would be, but check the perimiter.

The main way that you can tell if you have a monte dash is if you have a hole through the words "Washer Wiper". the hole is about 3/8". These holes were found in '70 and '71 monte dashes. '72 monte dashes did not have the holes, although I have seen one that did. the number of holes varies and so does the size. I have repaired these dashes, some having only 4 holes, and some having as many as 8 holes. Varying in size from "1/4 to 1/2". All of the monte dashes that I have repaired have that hole throught the words Washer Wiper. That is the downfall to using them in a chevelle since it is a dead giveaway of a dash conversion. But if you like the look of the 3 pod dash and instruments over the sweepstyle look, it really doesn't matter.

Thanks Steve and Hugh. The only holes in my dash that I can find are two 1/16" by 1/4" square slots on the right side of the heater controls opening. The "washer wiper" letters are untouched. Any idea's about these two slots?

This is where indirect lighting illuminates the controls from the back.

I have taken a few 70-72 Monte Carlo dashs out (6) and removed the woodgrain fascia. I have found 2 that did not have any holes in the dash face at all. They did have small slots along the outer edge where the railed lip is in which small tabs fit thru and were bent over in the back of the dash to hold on the fascia. They had no glue holding on the woodgrain. I think they were 1970 models, don't have them anymore. They did have xactly the small features except that the whole dash was just black.

Look around the outer edge of the dash face for small slots less tha 1/16"x1/4".
