: How does the stock shifter boot go?

I'm putting the stock shifter boot in my 70 Chevelle. I cant figure out how it goes together, there is a black ring with 4 tabs on it, the rubber boot and the top brushed plate. Where does the carpet go and which way does the plate with the 4 tabs go? Tabs up or down? How does it attach to the floor hump? I have the stock shifter hump in the floor.
Thanks for any help.
Ron

Ron, From the floor pan (shifter hump)up, here's the order of installation: boot, black ring, carpet (edge of carpet fits in flanges on black ring), trim ring. The 4 screws that hold the trim ring to the black ring go on the sides. The black ring is held to the floor pan by sheet metal screws that go through the boot. If any problems email me.

Thanks Von, you da man. Thats just what I needed, you even answered the question I forgot to ask (how the trim plate goes on).
