doing a frame off resto on my 72ss.
finally got the body off (after cutting the floor to get the last stripped bolt out!!!).

bought some POR 15 to paint the floors from the inside and out. Thing is I want to clean out all of the undercoating/crud from the floor (under carriage). what is the easiest way to do this. is there some chemical that i can use which will break the ***** up??
please help
Tom

ps. the frame is already sandblasted and painted!!! my question only applies to the floors of the body of the car...

Spent many hours with a propane torch and putty knife. Finally figured out that kerosene will soak in and melt this stuff off real easy. Just keep brushing on every couple minutes or so, it comes off.

I've seen undiluted Castrol Super Clean ("Purple Stuff")take some pretty heavy and nasty crap off engines before. It'll probably work in your case, too. Kerosene is a good idea, though. Just be sure to do all this in a well ventalated area!!

Just finished the bottom of my 64. I could never get all the undercoating off so I rented a sandblaster and cleaned the whole bottom. When I talked to the people at por-15 all I had to do was clean with marine clean then paint. Turned out great! learned one thing make sure you put 2-coats and 2mils thick(THATS THICK!)

I did a frame off on my 60 LC. I tried lots of stuff. My best results came from Easy Off oven cleaner. This is a nasty job; I hope you have the body on a cradle.

I tried all kinds of strippers etc and found that a cheapo heat gun worked the best for me. I bought one of those $20 hot air guns (wagner?). Just heat the caked on crud or underbody coating and then scrape it off with a putty knife. No muss, no fuss and it only took one night to do the entire firewall and underside. Then I hit it with the media blaster. Much less material to displace so less media/time/effort.

To answer your question, you can spray or brush on por15, whatever your pleasure. looks great both ways

Last week I read a posting about spraying POR. Seems to be very toxic. You'd better call POR first, to make sure.

My friend who owns a paintshop said that i would need an extremely high quality resperator for spraying that stuff...plus a throw away body suit and mask. He told me his bad expreience with it. He sprayed his underbodu with just the resp. and wherever there was skin there was a light black tinge. It may use a bit more paint but i say just brush it.
