If I remember correctly the assembly came apart fairly easily. There is a retaining clip in the end and three screw behind the signal switch. With those out she just fell apart. Send me an email if you want to describe the task further.

Ok, i didnt ever get it apart so im going to mask it off and paint it after I sand it, What paint should I use for the colored parts? Im going back with the original green interior so it should be painted green.

"...now you can remove the shift tube from the column body."

-from the Car Craft Magazine article (linked above) titled:
"How to Rebuild a GM Steering Column".

Read the text below the picture that shows the bottom end of the column. Remove the Clip, pry off the cap etc. etc....

Well, if they aren't anything else to take apart like you said, then just go ahead and mask it off, and be aware of getting paint on something that you don't want paint on. Well, let me know what happens when you are all said and done. graemlins/beers.gif

Well I finally won the war. I got tired of it and when out there and hit it with a hammer and a block of wood and hit the shift tube while the main tube was proped up and it moved so I keep hitting it and it just fell apart. Thanks for your help guys. On the colored parts should I just go find the closes spray-paint for it and use that same paint on all my interior trim and dash, Ive got to get them all and paint them anyways...

There's nothing worse than trying to take something apart when you're not sure how it went together in the first place. That's what makes THIS such a great website. There's always someone out there that already did whatever it is you are trying to do.

ps/ thanks for the belly laugh. I know that feeling...now where's that BIG hammer....
