: Headliner Bows

After reading several posts about guys doing their own headliners, I thought I would experiment with the bows first. I didn't even get started when the first question came up. There are 3 holes at every bow position, in a sideways v (< ) formation.
What holes do they go in?

This is just a guess, but I think you put them in the hole that gives you the best fit.

When I tore the old headliner out of my 70, they were all in the upper, or highest hole.

Andrew is correct, you put them in which ever hole gives you the best fit. I always put them back in the same holes they came out of and it seems to work fine. Also remember that each bow will only work in one position, so note where they came from. They should have a paint marking near the middle to help you ID them.

They need to go back in the same hole they came out of. This I know first hand, I tried to help a buddy figure is out when he took them all out at one time. He finally gave up and took it to an upholstery shop. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

That's what I was afraid of Wallace. When I purchased the wagon, the headliner and bows were already out. So I don't know exactly which one went where. I'll play around with it, but more than likely I will also be headed to the upolstery shop.

Thanks for the info.

How much does it normally cost to have this done. My car came with a lot of new parts(in the trunk) including a new headliner.

How long does it take to do it yourself, and what tools/glues and adhesives are needed?

I have a 4-door wagon Jake. So far I'm looking at fitting the bows, a new headliner, insullation for the headliner, some glue around the edges, and the plastic seal strips around most of the glass. Not to mention the metal seals around the door/pillar edges. Needless to say it's going to be labor intensive.

Have done the headliner on my 71 chevelle 2 door twice. Try to get the bows to fit as snug to the roof line as possible. The first headliner was a little loose and ened up tearing right at the fabric the bows slide into. Ended up with the headliner falling on my head. The second go around I snugged the bows to the roof and used a bit of duct tape to reinforce the bow channels. Has kept tight ever since. My $.02
