: will 67 seat covers fit on 70 frames
chevelleforme Jan 3rd, 04, 5:11 PM I have a 67 Chevelle and I am trying to keep the interior looking mostly original. I may be able to get a pair of 70 GTO seats with the headrests that I like to have. My question is, will the seat covers for a 67 fit the GTO seats. I am doing the interior in white and I want to keep the same or similar pattern to 67. 68-70 were not available in white from what I can tell so far from the True Connections catalog. Thanks
67 seats are different from 68-72.
my442ragtop Jan 3rd, 04, 10:24 PM DON'T EVEN TRY TO PUT THOSE COVERS ON
they will not fit!
then once you begin installation,
the manufacturer will not take them

RAMBO Jan 4th, 04, 12:24 AM Um... Could someone explain why they would not fit?
67 seats are the same as 68 except for the seat back material, plastic VS metal. I have 1970 buckets with 1968 seat covers on them, no problem.
Why would 67 covers be any different.
I thought only 64-65 had physically different seats. 66-72 are all basically the same style frame, just differnces in locking mechanisms/locations and seat cover design patterns.
I can see why you might not want to use 66 in a later car (no locking back) or 67-68 on a 69-72(incorrect lock location) but to use 67 seat covers on a 69-72 seat doesn't seem to be a problem to me.
Please elaborate why they wouldn't work.
my442ragtop Jan 4th, 04, 12:21 PM try this,then.
get out your ruler, measure the entire width
of the cushion, then the backrest at widest part.
compare to the covers you want to put on.
so far so good?
now measure the (center)section of the seats and covers."thats the(incert)between the piping"
that is where a cloth listing under the cover
is where you run a wire thru to "hogring"
to the foam.follow me still?
if the measurements are the same , well go for it!
but if its 1/2" off graemlins/sad.gif
GOOD LUCK
chevelleforme Jan 9th, 04, 9:57 PM OK, for those that are interested, Ground Up says the 67 seat covers should work on the '70 frame which is the same from 69-72, PUI says they have never tried it so they don't know and OPG gave me the most detailed answer by telling me that the dimensions of all seat frames 66-72 are the same and the dimensions of the seat covers are the same with the only difference being the pattern.
my442ragtop Jan 10th, 04, 9:30 AM Good luck graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Let Us know how They come out.
70SS Jan 11th, 04, 12:34 AM Those covers will fit just fine.
MikeJ Jan 11th, 04, 5:08 PM If the seat frames are the same -
Would that mean for example that you could take a front bench seat from a 1971 Chevelle and bolt it right in to a 1967 bench seat Chevelle without welding
my442ragtop Jan 11th, 04, 8:41 PM now we are talking seat tracks :D
my442ragtop Jan 11th, 04, 8:51 PM maybe the 71 seat will fit.,if you replace
the 71 tracks w/ the 67 tracks // if they bolt on.
then, measure the width of the bench seat of the 67 , then 71 .
if they are within 1"
the seat should fit.
but why spoil the looks of a nice 67
with a 71 bench graemlins/clonk.gif
MikeJ Jan 11th, 04, 10:45 PM My 67 doesn't have headrests - and they are very rare factory option and never found at the swap meets nor does anyone sell aftermarket 67 headrests
So I've been wanting to do something for a while - just haven't decided what yet
my442ragtop Jan 12th, 04, 3:29 PM Just measure the distance between the doors (closed)
I think the 67 is not as wide as a 71?
I dont have the dimensions here with me.
you might not be able to close the doors
on your 67,with a 71 seat in it.
chevelleforme Jan 12th, 04, 6:47 PM My original question had to do with bucket seats only. I did however buy a set of 68 GTO seats to use which took care of my problem. I haven't really looked very close at the bench, of which I have one of those also, of a 67 and a 71. The seat tracks should be the same on both though, as the repro companies all sell the same seat tracks for all years. I would think you would have to measure this one to find the correct answer on which will fit.
my442ragtop Jan 13th, 04, 9:30 PM to chevelleforme, I was posting anwers for you.
someone came up with a bench seat question, in your forum,
and I could not resist.,sorry :(
