I'm trying to put an SS gauge dash into a '70 Malibu. I have a gauge that has white lettering on the gauges and I understand it must be either a '71 or '72. Can someone tell me how to tell the difference? Also, apparently the under dash wiring harness won''t work, from what I've read in the Tech Archives. What do I have to do to get this '71/'72 SS gauge dash to work in my '70 Malibu? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I'm totally frustrated!*?/$*

Bruce,
The lettering on the 70 gauges is a greenish-white color. I am not totally sure on the wiring harness though. I have been told that the 71 harness will work and that the 72 should be the same except for the seatbelt warning light. I needed a new harness for my 70 SS warning light cluster, and got one out of a 71 Monte Carlo. So far, everything seems to be working, but I havent put the turn signals, headlights, markers back together yet.
What I did before I actually went to throuble of putting the 71 harness in, was compared it to the wiring diagram for the 70 SS dash. Everything was the same except for a couple of wires. These wires were easy to figure out because I labeled them when I took the 71 out. Hope this helps.

70-71 dash harness will interchange, the wiper wiring is on the opposite side of firewall connector on 72's.
