: Seatbelt help and bucket seat choice made...

Well all I have decided what bucket seat I am going with. I was about to use the set of stock bucket seats, but desided they didn't have enough lateral support.

Here is a link to the seat I am using: http://www.scatenterprises.com/elite.html
and a picture of just it here: http://www.scatenterprises.com/blkvinylbig.jpeg

Now on to belts. When I bought my car it had no seat belts. I promptly put in some Autozone special lap-belts. now I want a regular reliable 3 point setup. I have NEVER used a 3 point in a malibu before. From what I've scene you must tuck the belt into some flaps on the roof. -what's up with that?-

CAn I bolt on something from a later model and it work. HOw will the lack of a B-pillar effect things? Looks will need to match the nice new seats, so nothing to old fation buckel wise. Originality is not key (obviously).

THANKS for any input.

I have a 72 with oe seat belts. Unlike todays belts you had the option of wearing the shoulder belt. When not used the shoulder belt was stored on the roof in a pocket. It has no retractor mechanism and is anchored to the roof. The coup has no pillar. When used it connected to the lap belt with a "keyhole slot". Hope this helps

Can I take this http://www.julianos.com/retract_3point.html and bolt it directly to the floor?

I do have the bolts residing in my roof liner. so I can bolt the re-direction part up there. But that bulky base unit will have to find a home on the ground. While not getting in the way of passengers entering the car. Maybe I can stash it inside the arm rest do-hicky?

I thought about the same thing, Mike.

My stock lap belt has a base unit though and I am wondering if they aren't about the same size and I can just bolt the 3-point unit in the same place. I don't have my car here so I can't check. Has anyone else installed these Julianos belts?

I think for people climbing in the back, the belt itself is going to be more in the way than the base unit. But hey, I'll always be in the drivers seat so what do I care? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The retractors are quite a bit larger than the stock ones, and do not bolt directy to the floor, you would need the "L" bracket.

I actually have a set of these(not yet installed). I can take a digital pic of the retracto next to a stock one if you guys want to compare sizes, etc..

Let me know & i'll shoot it & post it.

Mike-
I think you will like the Elite's! I checked 'em out when i bought the Rally's and almost went with those instead...

Let me know how the ordering direct from Scatt goes, I have a friend who wants to order a set of the Rally's like mine, but doesn't want to hassle with a middle man dealer like I had to.

Cya guys-

Hey...I would like to know if anyone has fitted a set of modern retractor belts in a 71 Chevelle or Elky. I have seen a set from a Toyota truck (I think) where the shoulder belt retractor was mounted on the back wall of an elky and used the stock roof mont to support the sling. I sure would like a retractable belt in the Elky. The solid one kinda limits changing the radio station.

Thanks

ahsom,
I wouldn't mind seeing that picture if you have a chance to take it. Also, could give me rough dimensions on the Juliano retracto unit? Thanks!
