I saw head rests for a '68 with buckets in the Muacle Factory catalog. My car's seats were already done when I got it, and doesn't have head rests. Is a 68 SS with buckets supposed to have head rests? If so, are these replacement units OK quality and look?

Headrests (strato-ease head restraints) were an option in 68 and standard equipment in 69...

Hmmmm....is there anyway to tell if my seats were head rest seats, but they got lost along the way?

The only way to really know would be the build sheet, or the original invoice.

Is the seat shape basically the same? Like will the seat frame have provisions, so I could add them?

Few were ordered with headrests, odds are your car didn’t have them. The seats are the same. If all the mounting hardware is included it’s an easy installation.

You can pull your seat back cover off and look and see if the headrest brackets are there. That's how they were added in 67...........68's may differ.

The 68 headrests are a one year only item. Totally different from 66/67. The 68 seat backs on seats not equipped with headrests are the same as those that do have headrests. All that is needed is the headrests and mounting hardware. I don’t think Muscle Factory has the mounting hardware.

The 67 and 68 headrests are not the same. The 67 headrest posts go into the seats between the seat back and the vinyl on top of the seat.
The 68's go into the seat like the 69-72 which is right into the vinyl seat top an inch or so from the plastic seat back The 68 also has the rare black vinyl headrest locks(escutcheons) insteat of chrome like the 69-72...
