Hi again,
I'm considering the ZZ4 to replace the 307 in my 72 Malibu with turbo 350 trans and 273 rear. Anyone out there have this combo? Any potential problems or info I need to know before going down this road. How about the 10 to 1 compression. Any problems running 92 octane? Hope to upgrade to a 700r4 and better rear later.
Thanks again in advance.

I have a 71 chevelle that was a 307, TH350, 10 bolt posi 2.73 car, with AC, PS, PDB, all original. I installed a ZZ3, a 2500rpm stall converter, and had my TH350 rebuilt with a shift kit. I ran this combo with my original 10 bolt posi 2.73's and this car would go from 70 to 120 mph faster than anything on the road. I ran it this way for a year then installed a 12 bolt posi with 3.90's, what a difference this made. I used a Holly 3310 vac sec carb. The only problem I had with the whole installation was with the headers. But, I already wrote about this in your ZZ4 headers post. I had no problems with detonation but I wouldn't use anything less than 92 or 93 octane fuel. The aluminum heads buy you .5 in the compression ratio because of the better heat dissipation. That is one reason why they safely bumped it up to 10 to 1.
Feel free to email me with any questions.

Tino, I have a ZZ3 in my 64 El Camino w/ 350 turbo and 3.08 gears and an Auburn Posi. It's a good motor in my opinion and it pushes my 64 to 60 in 5.1 and the quarter in 13.48 at 105.2. That's pretty good performance for $3000.

Thanks everyone for the info. It doesn't sound very encouraging. The Bora's with ceramic coating are just a little pricy for me and I don't want to hack the comps I have now. Just wish there was a header that would fit. Back to the drawing board.
