I'm about to use the SEM dye to re-do my 70 kick-panels. It comes in gloss black and satin black. They also have a low and high sheen clear top coat. What would be the best for the correct original style finish? I've cleaned them repeatedly w/ Simple Green and used the SEM prep. Do I need to use the SEM Sand Free as well? Thanks in advance for all help! Scott

Scott,
My opinion is that it should be satin, rather than gloss. I have painted many a kick panel. Come over and look at the convertible if need be. Good luck.

Agree with Alan - Satin or semi-gloss. Gloss looks bad and you can tell they have been painted.

Scott, SEM also makes a color called landau black, I'm not sure if it will be more or less glossy than the satin color you might want to check it out though. The glossy is just going to stand out like a fart in church and just be obnoxious. I would use the sand free for sure on kick panels. If you don't they are going to scratch way easier. Just out of curiosity are the panels out of the vehical? I took mine out of my '67 and they were a real pain to get back in but it was worth the effort. Dave.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and info. I knew you guys wouldn't let me down! Yes the panels are out of the car. I'll get some of the landau black and test it on an extra panel to compare finishes. I originally thought that I would have to use a gloss then topcoat w/ a semi-gloss clear to get the right finish. Sounds like it will be easier than I thought. Thanks again! Scott
