I have a 1966 SS396. The previous owner put in an LS-6 crate engine instead of rebuiling the original 396. I'm at the point in my restoration where I lowered the engine and tranny into the chassis. The alternator & power steering brackets are all f*cked up. According to the Year One catalog. The powersterring bracket I have is for all chevy V-8's. However when I use it to mount my power steering, it uses the add on pulley for the smog pump. The alternator was mounted on the pass side with home made brackets. My question is, can I use a long water pump and all the neccessary bracketry from a 1970 LS-6 setup in my 66? I put the long water pump on, and set up the core support to see if I would have enough room to fit in a fan. It looks like it will be real tight once I get the 4 core rad in there. Is anyone currently running a 454 with long pump in a 66? I would appreciate any pictures you guys can email me. If I go the long water pump route, I need to buy all the pulleys & brackets. Did the 66 power steering have a remote reservoir?? Please help!!!
Thanks!

yep it will fit, I have a 454 with the long pump in my 66 convertible, and I am running the normal long water pump power steering pump with built in reservoir..originally it used the short pump with a small power steering pump with a remote reservoir, but this stuff is getting expensive and the long pump stuff fits fine.

Are you guys running four cores too?
(Not much room in my 67 w 4 core and shortie, not enough for a clutch fan, although there is a 1" spacer in there. Be sure the "yes's" are running 4 cores.)

The 64 & 65 have a spacer in front of the radiator if this is on the 66-67 models it can be removed and you will gain about 2 inches of clearance.

Are those of you running a long pump using a clutch fan and a 4 core radiator?
