: Where Can I Mount My Tach?
Dan Orgill Oct 17th, 03, 3:54 PM Where can I mount my tach in my '69 SS? The car is A/T with a console shift. The steering column doesn't look viable because the whole unit rotates when shifting gears.
Any ideas? The unit is a Sun Super Tach that I got off E-bay awhile back.
Thanks,
Dan
69chevelle355 Oct 17th, 03, 4:12 PM when my chevelle belonged to my dad he got a vdo tach...he mounted it on the steering column, but i didn't like it becuase it got in the way of the speedometer, so i moved it to the a-pillar...i just removed the cover drew two marks and drilled the holes the mounted the tach there. took about 20 minutes and it looks bada**
supersport396_2000 Oct 17th, 03, 4:36 PM Try a shift light instead of a tach,or do you just like the way a tach looks

Yes, I really like the Sun tach, I wouldn't dream of not putting it on the car. I just wanted a piece of cool vintage equipment in the car and the tach fits the bill.
72ElCaminoSS Oct 19th, 03, 2:14 AM I guess you meant column shift? Your question had me very confused.
Anyway, if that's it, I have the same problem. I'm just going to switch to a floor shifter and console ASAP
My tach does move when I shift. But, being an automatic, I only shift once, then I just move it back smile.gif
I don't know the 69SS layout. But, in my 72, I placed it just a tad to the left, where the stock tach would be. It's just low enough to not block my fuel gage.

Sorry for any confusion, My car is a floor shift with a console.

69chevelle355 Oct 19th, 03, 7:49 PM i just got a new auto meter monster 5" tach to replace my smaller vdo....anyone ever tried to put it where the fuel gauge goes in a '69? i was looking at it today and it seemed like it would fit but im not sure, and i want to be sure before i start to take things apart
coop Oct 19th, 03, 8:13 PM I have a column shift in my 69 and I also have a autometer tach mounted on the column, you have to miunt it above the part that moves with the shifter. Take a look at my website to see it:
