In 1967, when I was 20 (do the math and you will see I'm a "mature" Chevelle enthusiast), my folks bought me a '66 SS coupe with a 4 spd. Wow, did I ever have some good times in that car! Anyway, two years later I decided to go to college and had to sell it. Since then, of all the cars I've had, that's the one I miss the most.

A few years ago I picked up a '68 El Camino Malibu that's a nice weekend driver. However, I still had a yearning for a big block, so about a year ago I casually mentioned to the Mrs. that I was thinking about getting a '68 El Camino SS. She really surprised me by saying "why don't you get a Chevelle like you used to have?" (We were dating back in '67) I'm thinking "alllrrightt!!" She then says, "it has to have air conditioning." That narrowed the field down a bit. [Okay, okay . . .I know this is the Tech section, so I'll get to the point--it's just fun to share good news with people who can appreciate it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif]

After a nine month search I found and bought a beautiful Marina Blue '66 SS coupe with a M20 4 spd., L34 and A/C.

The car has power brakes (J50) and power steering (N40). My question is, were those considered stock or options for a SS?

Thanks,
Greg

Both PS and PB were options on the Super Sport until 1969, when power disc brakes became standard. Power steering, however, still remained an option. Congrats on your new(?) Chevelle!

Back in 1970 I had a 66 SS 396/325 in factory condition. No power steering and no power brakes. AC was rare in anything in these parts back then. All this stuff was optional. That type of blue is pretty darn sharp, to boot.
