: 1971 SS front bumper stripes?

I just found an owners manual for a 1971 Chevelle and was quite surprised to see a pic of a Supersport Chevelle in it with stripes on the front bumper. (page 54)

Were there actually cars made like that? I never saw one before.

Just wondering...

I don't think so.
The only stripes that were offered on the Chevelle in 71, was the D88 Hood And Deck Stripes, and the stripe down the sides for the Heavy Chevy.That is strange though.
That couldn't be the bumper guards, are they?

mr409, I have the 71 owners manual and I know exactly what you're talking about! It looks like the bumpers on that car were painted body color, then had stripes painted on them. I cannot imagine anyone putting stripes ontop of chrome, uhg. It looks kinda interesting though, but who knows if it was ever implemented on production cars.
