I don't know if this is the forum for this question but I'm curious about the success any of you have had in getting parts through Team Chevelle classifieds. I am specifically interested if anyone has had any dealings with a "Mike" from Minnesota. He claims to have many good and rare parts. He doesn't have email and isn't on the net. I'm from Vancouver BC and dealing with someone of that distance is a bit unsettling. So if anyone has dealt with "Mike" I would appreciate your comments. I guess I need a little reassuring.
Thanks
Harvey

Harvey,
There are several escrow services designes to protect you from exactly what you are worried about. I dont know if they would be worth it on small items but on a high dollar purchase, they may be worth a try. They cost the buyer and seller a small fee but protect you pretty well. If a seller would not agree to use them I think personally I would be sceptical. Two that I know of are i-escrow www.iescrow.com (http://www.iescrow.com) and tradesafe www.tradesafe.com (http://www.tradesafe.com) Hope this helps

Took me four times to get the html right !

Harvey, I know whtat you mean I placed a want add in that section and got an e mail a few days later, I was uncertain about sending money that far away,I called the guy amd spoke with him for a while and felt better, he gave me all his info, I sent my money and everything showed up, I would get all info I could ask for everything, talk to him , most times you can tell by talking to someone, but then again maybe not,I was lucky Hope you are. I recently sold some parts thru Team Chevelle classifieds. I handled money by shipping UPS collect. Team Chevelle classifieds have been somewhat problematic, too much E-mail with no sales. Some have even tracked down my home phone number and called.

I've sold a few items through the adds. All with good results so far. It's scary on both sides of the proposition. I usually go UPS and ask for COD. You can still get screwed. They may waive pickup where you're out the shipping cost or they could write a bad check now they've got your stuff but you do have their address. I highly suggest talking through a phone line and getting a feel for the other guy and how committed he is to the hobby. Like I said I've had no problems and I've met lots of really nice people who really love this hobby.

I got an e-brake pedal from Tom in PA. He was really cool. He sent me the part first! He said "send me a check when you get the box. My address will be on it." How cool! I sent him the check as soon as I got it.

I've tried to sell some stuff, but it never seems to get done. I even sent a guy pictures of some glass I had. He never wrote back.

I've told others I was interested in buying a part and they never get back to me. I still think its a good way to get those hard to find small items.

Hello all,

Just want to state that I am a Mike from Minnesota and don't want to be confused with the other Mike (of whom I dont know). Just in case I do sell something on here. I just hope Mike doesn't make a bad name for us.
In addition, I have never bought any parts thru this site, but have bought parts thru ads in Hemmings and had decent luck. I would definately call and talk to the person and ASK QUESTIONS. Have them describe every inch of detail. Most parts I bought were sent C.O.D.(the ups man didn't leave until I checked it out.)But as always BUYER BEWARE!!

UPS will only accept money orders or cashiers check.NO cash or personal checks anymore.I hope Russell is satisfied with the parts I sold him.I used the tracking # on the UPS internet site and kept track of the delivery at every stop(real cool).

If someone has had a problem, I usually got dragged into it. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif Considering the volume of traffic on those pages there haven't been very many issues brought to my attention as an admin and they have all been reasonably resolved. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Most cases have been parts not 'as described', so ask detailed questions. Email address and a phone number make a BIG difference. If things don't work out very well, let us know. If we get complaints about the same person, there is no reason for us to allow them to continue placing ads.

We have also been considering having a 'members area' where only those who join can place ads.. this would allow some tracking and accountability. This was also to include a Chevelle parts and misc auction for low dollar items, again, only members could place the items for sale although anyone could bid on them. This is actually in place and working, but we don't have the resources or coin to fully implement it at this time.

just some ramblings on the subject.

I sold stuff to about 15 different people over the past couple years. I have always relied on the buyer being an "honest car guy" and shipped the parts with a satisfaction guarantee and asked for payment upon receipt and acceptance. I only had one individual who did not pay or return my parts. Since I knew the chances I was taking I wrote it off as one of lifes disappointments. On the up side I made some new friends ,in other states, due to my "for sale" ads. All in all in has been fun.

I have been looking for years for a convertible that was just right for my wife. Since we got our computer, I have been searching for that just right convertible. In 3 months I found what I had been looking for over a period of years. The car was 95% acurately described. Yes, it had a little rust, but he didn't fully describe the extent. He told me the engine used "a little" oil. The car was in OH and I drove it to OKLA. It used a little oil from OH to OK, 8qts! But, basically, it was as described and looked like the pictures on the email. I asked him if he would hesitate to jump in and drive 850mi. He said "no". I bought it, jumped in it, 100mi down the road stopped at Walmart and bought a case pf Pennzoil and continued on to Okla City. Zero problems 13hrs later. My wife was thrilled, i'm a hero and the conv now has a fresh sm bk 406 and Muncie. I was looking for a nice driver and it is very nice, not concurs. Nice fresh paint, interior, top, tires, weatherstrip, rebuilt suspension, cold ac, pb and ps. The top works like new. He asked $8900, I gave $8400. Built a 400, swapped the Saginaw for a Muncie and added factory cruise from a salvage yard. Now I have about $13000 in it. My original goal was a $5-6000 car and then do all the work, but, still, I would probably be up to $13000. Oh well. The point to this whole story is, basically I'm happy with the purchase I made through this site, and my wife showed me how happy she was when I got back with "her car". I should have bought it years ago! Actually, maybe I should get her one every month. Or every week.
