I am getting ready to change a 72 El Camino over to a stock floor shifter today and have been wondering if you still leave the linkage connected to the column . From what I can tell looking at the assembly manual the linkage is the same for the column whether a floor shift or column shift. I still want to be able to lock the steering wheel with the key . Also would the reverse lights and neutral switch still work on the column? Or do you have to wire in a new harness and use the switches for the console shifter? Shifter is from a 72 Monte carlo. Yes leave the linkage to the steering column hooked up and everyting should work as it did before. That is how I did mine..no problems.

Thanks a lot 71velle. We got it hooked up today. Went a lot easier than i thought. Hardest part is cutting the carpet. RichF
