: Radiator size

I'm looking to put an aftermarket aluminum radiator in my '72 Malibu. I see in catalogs from Summit, etc. that they list them for GM applications by specific sizes, like 18x22, 18x26 and so forth. Does anyone know what the dimensions entail...is it the overall length and height or just the length and height of the cooling fin area and not including the side tank? Anyone using one of these aluminum radiators and what size, do you like it? Were you able to adapt your shroud to it as well?

Gator,
Usually the dimension is for the core itself. I would make sure and call the manufacturer before purchasing and ask them if the particular one you want to get will fit your application.

I'd recommend looking at Griffin radiators (Summit Racing). I installed one of their two 1" row aluminum direct replacements for my 70' Malibu and the fit was perfect - no fabrication needed at all. The price (I think) was around $270. With the new radiator only, I dropped my 383's temps 22 degrees on average. Houston summers' can be brutal and getting a bigger radiator was my only other option. It works well. Have fun with your choice http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks guys. And Wes, yes I did look at that Griffin radiator and it looks about what I'm looking for, so I may go with that brand. I was planning to install a separate transmission cooler instead of having to order a radiator with a transmission heat exchanger. I don't mind a bit of fabricating to make things fit. And my Chevelle is definitely not "original" parts stuff!
