I have a '70 Elky and I'm really interested in finding out the exact day my car was built (Body joined w/chassis, engine put in, etc.). The door tag says 12-69 and the cowl tag says 11D. I've already decoded the engine and that says 11-17-69 but that's when the engine was put together not the car. I haven't found the build sheet yet (I think it's in the seat)because it's not on top of the gas tank would it be on there as well as the dealer that sold it? Please let me know a way to find the date w/out the build sheet. Thanks!!

Do you sill have the protect o plate that came with the car. it's attached to the warantee book that came with the car when new. That will tell you the month it was built.

Impossible without the build sheet, the week is the closest you can get.
If you find the build sheet the scheduled date is in Box 10 and will look something like this; 17 09-12
17th in sequence on Sept 12.

Elcamino-
Wow, that's great info! I just looked up my buildsheet and now I know when my car was "born".
Does "in sequence" mean the actual vehicle to roll down assembly line?
Mine is 14 th (in sequence), does it mean it was the 14th vehicle to roll of the Van Nuys assembly line that day???

9/13/99 I just found my build sheet!!!!! It was in the back of the passenger's side seat back. It's in a few pieces, and I'm not going to tape it for originality. I'm trying to find a frame to put it in. Turns out my car had gone through a lot of changes over the years. It was built 61st in sequence on Thanksgiving 1969 (Nov. 25).

Thanks, George. I just looked at my build sheet and it says 11-25 and I accidentally looked at the 1999 calendar and it said Thanksgiving that day.
