I am going to put new seat covers on my 70. Question is do you have to take the back off of the base to re-upholster them? I don't mean the plastic seat back, I mean separate the whole seat into 2 pieces. I did a bench seat once and had to do it, not sure about buckets. Thanks

Yeah, the backs come off.

They are much easier to recover when the backs and the seat are separated.

Yeah, I think it's nearly impossible to reupholster them when they're together.
There are only 4 bolts holding the top on, however, you pretty much need to remove the bottom cover before you can take them apart.
