Does anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for a 69 Chevelle SS power disk brake proportioning valve? I called a few places in Hemmings that rebuild them but they do not sell just the rebuild kits.

I had a hard time myself I ordered the kit and lines from Ground up . It will not be stock but I just wanna stop . Someone had told me to try the aftermarket brake company`s you see in magazine`s like car craft etc they would rebuild if you sent it to them . Mike

I think that BULKSS is saying he bought a replacement proportioning valve/dist. block from Ground Up, which is not original for 67-70 but will function fine. You just have to do a little re-piping.

I am needing/wanting to rebuild mine too. I ended up sending it to Ground Up for them to get it rebuilt. There is probably a premium to be paid for this but what the heck, they support this site. I just sent it off to them. They said it would take about 3 weeks & cost about $85.00

Just so there is no misunderstanding, the proportioning valve (also called metering valve) for a 67-70 is the large "golf ball" sized unit mounted under/on the power brake booster. It has one inlet & one outlet. If you want to learn more, there are a couple of posts in the archives here. Search on "proportioning". BTW one of those posts mentions that TCN Chevelle is a source for these valves new, they in fact do not carry them, nor do they rebuild them (anymore).

Good luck,
Phil

thanks for the reply. I disassembled and cleaned mine and wanted to replace the seals because it was leaking a little brake fluid down on to the fender well. There is not much to it - a plunger and spring and some seals. They make the seals I just can't find who sells them.

I had mine rebuilt last year for $50 by ASL of Sparks, Nevada. I heard they've since closed their doors. Sorry. von

Hi Guys, that little golf ball valve under the master cylinder is the pressure metering valve for the front dics brakes, it has a spring in the back that has to be depressed when bleeding the brakes. The proportioning valve is the one mounted to the frame on 1969 chevelles and also has the wire on it for the low brake fluid warning light. Which one are we talking about.

bill is right, the proportioning valve is mounted to the frame, two lines on top one comming out the back and one for the front discs, it regulates the pressure, more for the front less for the back, the golf ball looing thing is a pressure relief valve, or metering valve, to relieve pressure on the front brakes or reduce the amount of pressure at the master cylinder( so it don't back into master cylinder), never heard of a proportioning valve being rebuilt or a rebuild kit that was available, buy a new one.

Master Power brakes will also rebuild build "metering valves." Not sure about prices.

Hi Guys, while we are on the subject of proportioning valve & pressure metering valve. Has anyone ever bleed their brakes and was able to get the spring in the back of pressure metering valve to go in? Also how does it work and what is the purpose of holding it in. I could never get mine to go in and still bleed brakes and never had a problem. Has anyone ever taken one apart? What is inside? Just a couple of questions, maybe we will have a test on this stuff, ha ha Thanks, Bill

my question is about the metering valve mounted under the master cyl. The brakes work fine -its just leaking a little so I wanted to replace the seals and keep the original valve on the car. (i'm a keep it original nut)
