I notice that a lot of the 68-72 floor consoles have plastic seat belt pockets mounted on each side of the console. Why 2 pockets on each side since one side retracts? It seems like you would have an extra unused pocket on each side? Some consoles I have seen have a chrome belt bracket screwed into each side of the console. What's up? Which is correct for a 71 Elky? Also I know there is a neutral safety switch on the console underside, but what about a backup light switch? Thanks, Scott!

The second seat belt holder is for a shoulder belt.

Backup and neutral safety switch work off the shifter for an Auto car. Not sure on manual

are there 2 switches to handle these functions or 1 switch does both? what about the chrome belt holders asked about previously? Thanks, Scott!

On an auto shift car the neutral safety switch and backup lite switch are built into the same assembly, similar to the unit at the bottom of the steering column on a column shift car. It has contacts for four wires on the side.
Like Ralph70ss said the second seat belt bucket is for the shoulder harness belt which was GM's predecessor to the 3-point harness.

The chrome seat belt holders are correct for '69.
Might be for '68 also, not sure.

The chrome clips are correct for the 68 as well as the 69. The 68 units were mounted low, flush with the bottom of the console. The 69 units were mounted about two/thirds up the console and canted slightly to the rear. This is the quickest way to discern a 68 console from a 69. A 69 console also has a flocked liner under the lid, and a spring loaded latch at the front of the lid, neither of which were found on 68 consoles.

Thanks, Patrick, I learned something today! I had been under the impression that the 68 consoles did not have the seat belt clips at all. And I had no idea about the lid liner or the latch

Ok, so what if it was a 1971 Convertible which doesn't have the shoulder belts... what kind of setup would there be on the console???

Does anyone have a pic or measurements of the clips on the '68 console? Thank you!

Since we're talking about the seat belt pockets, I have a question. I bought an auto. console at a swap meet. I think it was from a '70 since it had green letters on the lens and a lock on the door. This console did not have the seat belt pockets or any holes where any had ever been there. Why wouldn't a console have these from the factory? Also, are the pockets correct for a '71? If so I'm looking for a set.

Has anyone seen the chrome 69 seatbelt pockets around? Does anybody currently repro them? Or is there a good parts dealer that may have them?

I am not aware of anyone who reproduces these clips. They are occasionally available on ebay. The best source seems to be an old console. When you're looking, remember, the 68 and 69 clips are the same, right down to the part number I believe.

I think OPGI sells them. They are listed next to the picture of the later seat belt pockets in their catalog
