Hey guys,

For some reason I cannot seem to find anyone that sells aftermarket gauges that will fit into the stock dash of a '72. I checked Year One and a bunch of other places and turned up nothing. So heres my question does anyone know where you can buy them? or does anyone know the size of them? I was thinking of just fabricating a bracket and putting ones that look stock in. Buy the looks of it the tach, speedo and fuel gauges are all around 3 inch but I'm just guessing. Any help is appreciated.

Ground Up, OPG to name a few. I can't believe YO doesn't carry them though.

Actually I did find them after I posted on YO graemlins/clonk.gif but again i found they are the OEM style. I was hoping for aftermarket black faced ones. to match the look of the car.maybe they dont exist

About the only thing I've seen is the dash insert that Covan makes. It requires cutting the original dash out and putting their insert in. It will take aftermarket gauges... I believe two large 4"?? and four 2 1/16" gauges. A good source for gauges is egauges.com (http://egauges.com/) Or... if you way too much time then sense, graemlins/clonk.gif you could do something like what I did.

Good luck!

NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! how much modification did that take over the stock dash. I mean i'm only 19 so its not like i want to dive into something that I really dont have the ability/knowledge to do. I think that would look amazing in a black powedercoat and black gauges.....

Heavy,
What I did took a lot of time and planning, and as such, might not be something you'd want to tackle. (I know I wouldn't want to do it again!!) It involved cutting the gauge face, building up a fiberglass surround, and making the wood panel for the gauges, and repainting the black areas around the gauges. I had to watch for clearance issues behind the gauges, and totally rewire everthing. (actually did the whole car) The problem with a '72 dash is it's at an odd slant (to fight glare I assume) that doesn't take well to adding or changing gauges. I'd look at Covan's Classics (http://www.covansclassic.com/parts/description.php?II=370&UID=2005011312022163.197.166.130) products to see if they might be an easier way to go. You can get your carbon fiber look that way.
