Has anyone here ever bought or know of anyone purchasing a new reproductin console kit , currently available from Original Parts Group or National Parts Depot? I was thinking of purchasing one of those next month but I heard that the quality of the grain or something like that wasnt as nice as the original? If thats the case Ill have to look for a good original one then. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Mark, You heard right the grain is slightly different. The grain seems to be sharper than the original ......I am thinking a coat of SEM vinyl paint will tone it down a bit.
The complete kit does not include the slider plate (4-speed) or the dust shield or the rubber boot.
If I had it to do over again I would have looked harder for an original unit. My .02
i saw a couple ok originals on ebay... they go for around 400 and need restoration.... a reproduction is a little cheaper and ready to go.. but from what i hear the quality is not as nice as the original.. for myself id go with the repro.. i dont mind the grain not looking EXACTLY like the original..

I 'll bet you find a better deal than Ebay and get an original. Good Luck smile.gif

Thank's, Guy's for the replies. I appreciate the information. I am converting on a 68 Chevelle , from auto. on colomn to auto. with console and horseshoe shifter on the floor. My orig. trans. was a powerglide on colomn, now a rebuilt turbo.350 , and I allready have purchased the new horseshoe shifter last year from OPGI, for $99.00 when it was on sale at end of the year. Its on sale at that same price now in their 20th anniversary catalog good thru oct. and nov. only.I thought I would purchase the shifter conversion kit and shifter cable from Shiftworks. Thank's Again Guys , for your input. Happy Chevelling Mark

Just thought Id let everyone know , instead of going with the reproductin console kit , I got a good used original off of Ebay because I heard too many things I didnt like about the repro.kits ,such as the console shell itself being flimsy, and the grain texture being somewhat different from the original. And the holes not lining up nicely in top plate and rear light panel, and rear light panel corners being out of radius.
