: Bucket seat track question?

I'm in the process of fitting buckets in place of a bench in a 72.

I adjusted both seats all the way back on the tracks when fitting to check for seat belt retractor clearance.

I noticed that the drivers seat is about an 1 1/2" further back than the passenger seat. I rechecked that both seats were in the last (furthest back notch on the track).

Is the drivers seat supposed to allow the extra 1 1/2" travel backward? I suspect that when both seats are adjusted all the way forward the passenger seat will be same 1 1/2" closer to the dash.

The other thing I noticed is that the seat track on the passenger side is about an inch shorter that the drivers side. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I'll shoot...

Are both seats and tracks identical in that they came from the same type of car? Stupid question, but I saw this on a friend's car. One seat was from an A-body, and the other was from something else GM. Close, but no cigar...

Good luck! Hope someone else can answer more intelligently.

Thanks David,

As far as I can tell they came from a 72 chevelle and probably were not recovered. My only clue is that both seats covers and foams were really worn and ripped all over. The headrests are definiately A body chevelle style. The reason I think from a 72 is that the passenger seat had the seat belt warning sensor and wiring (I think that was the first year for that). The seat covers were 71/72 chevelle pattern.

Other than that I can't say for sure. Although the passenger seat track is about an inch or so shorter than drivers. They line up the same to the bolt pattern on the floor and where the inner bracket ends up in relation to the floor pan.

My 70 SS is like this and so is my neighbors 69 SS, and so is his brothers 69 SS. Seems kind of odd but that's just how they are.
