Does a 1972 402ci(240hp)come anywhere close in power to a 396ci (350hp) , I know there is a question of net vs gross rating change made in either 1971 or 1972,so I am really confused and need help. The 402ci motor has a block id of CTB which is suppose to be 240hp (LS-3) THANKS

The 72 240 SAE Net HP 402 motor is nearly identical to the 71 300 SAE Gross Hp 402. The 71 was down 25 HP from the 70 325 hp motor.
So that motor is 50 HP short of a 350 HP 396 in real terms. Different cam and more compresson should fix that problem
