I just picked up the 4-speed console for my 66 that I scored on E-bay and I have some questions. How many console brackets are on a 66, mine has two, one in front and one it the back. Where do the center two screws go into? Do they just screw into the floor? I may have covered the holes with the brush on undercoating I used.

Rick, If your talking about the two holes in the top grained face just forward of the console door they are for seat belt clips that were used in the 1967 Chevelles. Not for mounting the console. It's been awhile since I put mine in but I think there are only two mounts for the console. Front and rear.

I'm talking about the four screw holes inside the console box. The two rear ones go into a bracket, do the two front screws go in a bracket or straight into the floor?

Into a bracket...
There are three brackets used for 4-speed consoles. The middle bracket is more "rectangular" in shape than the rear bracket (which is more "angular" or swept back). Its about 1/2 inch off the floor, but with the carpet, you might be able to mount it to the floor, but I would either get/fabricate a bracket, or only mount with the front and rear brackets... I have had many cars where the consoles were held by only 3-4 screws, and the consoles were still fine...

The automatic consoles do not use a floor-mounted middle bracket, but instead used part of the shifter assembly to mount the console (middle holes)...
