: Broke Fender Nut

Fellow Chevellers, while I was removing the left
side fender on my 68 Malibu , I stripped the bolt
that is just to the right of the cowl tag. So I proceed
to use my handy dandy easy-out and what do you
know but the tack-welded nut underneath splits
right in half! I need some advice on how to remove the other half that is still firmly attached
under the cowl. I can reach by the wiper drive arm
and get to the nut but I can't get a hammer and chisel to it. This is my first attempt at restoring
and can be as frustrating as golf. But at least I have a Chevy to look at!!
Thanks

If you can reach it through the cowl, try to get a vise grip on it and use the easy out from the top to get the stud out. Then you will need to either weld a new nut in place so you can bolt on your fender, or you can put a regular bolt in and use a nut held by a wrench on the back side. Once you get everything aligned, tighten it up, should be ok.

Scooter, the stud came out when the nut broke in
half. What I have now is the remaining part of the
nut is "C" shaped with the back of the "C" facing
out toward the fender and I can't figure out what to
do to get it out. When you look down through the
bolt hole you can't see much of the nut.
Thanks for replying and if you can come up with
something let me know.
Thanks

Can you get a Dremel with a pencil grip in there??? If so you can cut the bolt out with that.
