A friend of mine told me he wanted to swap out the brand new stock oil pan on his '70 SS for a 6-quart pan, believing it will provide better lubrication during infrequent revving up into the 6000 rpm range. The motor is built and balanced to support that rpm range, however, he doesn't plan to deviate from the stock oil pump. He says he has to pull the engine to drop the pan far enough to replace it. Do you guys think this change is worth the effort? (He's not on the Internet so I'm asking in his behalf) Thanks in advance.

It's not necessary to entirely remove a big-block from the car to remove the pan...but the engine does have to be lifted up 4 to 6 inches, which requires taking off the trannie and unbolting the headers. It's a pain, and I don't think it's worth the trouble.

Absolutely no benefit but if your friend wants, go for it. If its a small block car, with a moroso low profile pan/or milidon, hooker super comp headers, he/she will wish they never attempted it, or a big block with junk headers were talkin clearence problems, or fire it up drive it and now the seal leaks. But they look fast. Also if its not a low profile 6 quart throw it away.
