: Driver's Side Floor is Wet

My driver's side carpet is wet. What is the best way to determine where it is leaking from? I'm not sure if it's the windshield, or the door. I'd take a hose to it, but I'm not sure when it will get above freezing around here (b-r-r-r-r-r).
Thanks. Fred

Where exactly is it wet?

It seems to be mostly wet towards the door and up into the corner where the highbeam switch is located.

Do you have a vinyl top? What kind of car?

RobertD...
70 Malibu, and yes I have a vinyl top. One thing I've found is a loos piece of the vinyl top in the door jamp, and my be interfering with the weather stripping. Seriously considering ordering new w/s for the door, as it looks pretty aged.

Riffers70,
My 71 EC leaks exactly where yours leaks
as the wet spot is the same by the Dimmer.
I don't know. I am going to dust some Talc
powder above the area just prior to the
next rain and follow the streaks to the
source.I have eliminated a leaky windshield
and firewall.I pulled the front kit and
completely resealed all the seams. Does anyone else have suggestions????

My 70 El Camino also leaks water there. Mine is coming in from the kick panel vent. There was a post here a couple of months back from someone that explained how to fix it here in the body section. I have been told that leaves and such accumulate in this area and prevent water from draining through the drain holes provided. I have cleaned mine out and drilled a couple of extra drain holes but mine started leaking again when I wash it. If I can find the post on how to fix it I will give the date and area. RichF

If you have a non a/c car, you have to remove the vent and reseal it with non hardning goop. Its kinda like chaulk - don't know the name of it.

Fred, RichF was referring to my post of 12/7/98 titled "Rust gremlins hideout".
If it's not your windshield, it's a good bet you'll find it's coming in from the kick panels.
Hope you find it,
Rich

I know on El Caminos and have been told Chevelles too that came with vinyl tops, when the roof was attacted to the posts, they used bondo to fill the gaps. On non vinyl top cars, they used lead. The bondo will deterorate after years. The bondo is right above the top corners of your windsheild. I found this the cause of my leak on my 70 Elky. Hope yours is something simple.

ouch..that sounds almost painful! I have printed out the archived "Rust Gremlins Hideout" and will follow RT's instructions and see what happens.
Thanks!
