I want to put bucket seats in my '67 replacing the factory bench. The bench seat is in really rough shape, the spring cage is broken in at least 3 places, the padding is as flat and thin as a pancake, and the vinyl has lots of problems. My local upholstry shop wants $600 to take care of the problems and cannot make the materials match front and back without doing the back seat too at an additional cost of $365 Plus Washington state sales tax wich will put me at over $1000 dollars just for the seats. My back seat is in excellent condition and I just want to dye it. I would like to put buckets from a newer model Z28 or Monte Carlo in and really dont know if they will fit properly as far as height can anyone help me on this?
My car is far from being a factory matching numbers car or anything and I am having trouble locating factory buckets without spending some serious cash. Any help would be much appreciated.

The price you were quoted is very high. I got my front and rears done for $325 a year ago. I think that you will have no problem in putting newer buckets in. Check the resto shop catalogs for the adapter brackets for the buckets.

Thanks for the price comparison. I did find the brackets you were talking about in a Ted Williams catalog, now the hard part will be finding the seats in good condition. I might wind up trying to reupholster the bench seat my self, this should be real exciting! Any help on that would also be appreciated.....

If you have good bench seats to start with (or you can get the stuff to make them good) the re-upholstery is not too difficult. I have done this for a '72 bench seat with stuff from one of the resto suppliers and it was actually easy. It just took a bit of grunt work and patience. Go to the search feature and look up upholstery and see what has been discussed here before. soem tips , if you choose to do this yourself: Take the seat backs off the bottom before you remove it from the car and put the backs in place after it is in the car--this makes for easier handling. The other tip is to get a table (where you can walk all around it)to put the seat stuff on while you work on it-- your back will thank you.
