I dyed my green seat belts black (last Year) using RIT dye. The problem is that the dye keeps coming off on my clothes. I have wiped the belts down several times with a damp rag which turns pretty black. Should I re-dye or just keep on wipeing? The green is starting to show through again. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Go to a automotive paint store and get the vinyl dye in a spray can. It will not come off like the rid dye. I would make sure that the belts are clean. Just wash them a bucket of warm soap and water. Let them dry and just spray them like you would any other spray paint.

Covered this before, and this works great:
1. Put your belts through the dishwasher first.
2. Get a $1.99 bottle of instant black kiwi shoe polish at the grocery store and swab your belts down.
Trust me, they will be like new.

I have used th RIT dye with good results and have not had the problem you mention. Let the dye dry out after it is applied and then wash the belts in a bucket of soapy water. That will remove the residual dye.

Shoe polish or leather dye? Glad someone posted this, mine could use it too.

Hey gotago,
I just did mine this weekend with the Kiwi Leather stuff and they came out pretty nice. It's pretty easy to do and very inexpensive. I've handled them quite a bit and nothing seems to come off right yet. My shoulder belts were faded quite a bit, almost a green color, and they look like new. Great idea to me! It's $2.49 here where I live and worth every cent. One bottle was plently for my El Camino.
Thanks guys!
