I have a '70 Chevelle. 2 years ago I bought a "refurbished" bench seat to replace the original. It has since fallen aprt on me. They just don't make them like they use to! I really love the look of a bench, but would buckets last longer???
Can you buy them new instead of refurbished???
And if so, where???
HELP!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif

I also like the bench seat in my Chevelle and there alot easier to find at the junk yard than buckets. I just posted a reply in the seat cover topic today about the bench I did my self and it came out fantastic. maybe beter that origional. I found a lot of factory errors, missing hogrings, hogrings not conected to anything, ect. IMO if you want it done right do it your self. Its very gratifing. Besides if I feel like buckets I just take the Camaro SS out for a spin. But theres nothing beter than my honey sitting next to me on the new bench that I refurbished together with her .

I know I can get new foam, but what about "restretching" the springs???

I did not see any bent springs in my seat frames only broken ones. I do know that spring steel is usally made out of inconell and its not easily bent. It usally breaks before it changes shape. I am not familiar with that term "Restretching" a spring.

This is interesting as I will be recovering my bench seat this spring... Where did you find foam for a bench seat? Is it a factory type? or just generic foam from an upholstery shop?

mrcleanmrclean, I have a 69 SS bench seat in good shape you can drive out and take for free. It has one rip about 1/2 inch long. It is out of a drag race car that was campainged locally for many years up here. (Rat Magic). 43,000 original miles and the front seat wasn't in the car for all of those by the holes in the floor for a race seat still to be welded! Call me at 253-549-2320. I will be in the shop both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and I live on Fox Island.
