I had to cut the retainers on the firewall side to remove the sound deadener under the dash. The item is made up of jute with a thin plastic? coating and is held in place by 8 - 10 plastic buttons that project through the firewall. I have tried UPS and Early Birds in Downsview but I cannot locate these retainers. Does anyone have a source?. The car is a 69 Malibu Convertible

Most all the reputable supply houses have them, John. If you order new firewall insulation, they come with it, but they're also available separately. Be forewarned- they are a PITA to put in!!! Put a light coating of Vaseline or grease on the outside to help them along.

I need to buy a new firewall sound deadener for my 72, I see that NPD (Natioal Parts Depot) has one for $29.00 and a molded one now for $108. Has anyone seen these in person yet? They probably are pretty nice, but a bit pricey.
