I like the look of the factory dash bezel with the chromed fins, but I would like to put Autometer gauges. Does anyone know if they will fit without hacking away at the plastic. Or, does anyone know of a custom dash bezel for a 64 that isn't some carbon fiber looking piece. Help??

Boy, ya know, when I was young and dumb (as opposed to old and dumb) I hacked a hole in my 64's dash right above the radio to mount a trio of engine monitor gauges. 30 years later (I still own the El Camino) I regret doing it but it's still the neatest place to mount a set of gauges. I have seen a small tack in the clock hole but the other hole doesn't lend it's self well to mounting a volt gauge, water temp, gas gauge and oil pressure combo and I don't think anybody ewven offers one. The tach in the clock hole looked cool though.

Someone makes an Aluminum aftermarket dash panel for the 64-65. I saw it recently in a Super Chevy I was flipping through. I'll take a look and see if I could find the magazine and give you the manufacturers name and number. The piece is actually the nicest (Besides a restored stock piece) 64-65 Dash I have seen. I believe the article did use Autometer guages in the article as well...
Please send me an email ( stavros7_a@yahoo.com )and I'll reply as soon as I find it...

Frank, I'll e-mail you a picture of my stock uncut '65 dash with AutoMeter gauges. It is even easier to do with the flat '64 dash.
