: Rochester Carb ID ?
Milo Sep 10th, 99, 8:45 AM I've found three different numbers on my Rochester Quadrajet: 7032248, 7032720, and 7031110. I gave a parts store the first number (for a rebuild kit) and they told me it didn't match up with that type of carb. I know, I should get a book of some type listing all IDs but I was hoping someone could help me out here. Car is a 64 Malibu w/ 327. Thanks.
elcamino72 Sep 10th, 99, 9:23 AM If I were you, I would go to a different parts store, preferably a local, privately own deal. These types of places can usually give you better service. I usaully try to shy a way from the large chains becuase the usually have now idea what the differance between a valve cover and an oil pan are. But now back to the question, sorry for getting off. If I can remeber correctly if you look in an older Chiltons manual for your car they ussually have the listing for the differant types of carbs based on Part #'s. If all else fails, you local Chevy dealer can always give you the original GM part number for the carb.

JWagner Sep 10th, 99, 9:37 AM I checked the Chev casting numbers book for your numbers (3 numbers on one carb?) and the lowest 703----- number is 7036101 which is higher than any of your numbers. This may not be a Chev carb. Are you getting the stamped number off the left side or are these numbers that are cast in and would be casting part numbers??

Tom Mobley Sep 10th, 99, 10:15 AM I think he's got casting numbers there, carbs had tags in those days, part numbers weren't stamped into the castings like later years.
Have to do the kit by make, model, year.

Milo Sep 10th, 99, 10:15 AM I'm assuming the carb has three different numbers because it has a sticker on it saying it was rebuilt in 1990. The numbers may be casting numbers, they are all written in a circular pattern. I was told to look for a number written from bottom to top somewhere but can't find anything. Thanks for the help.
elcamino Sep 10th, 99, 10:24 AM Q-Jet?
I have a 64 Impala 327 with Rochester but its not a Q-jet. These weren't available in 64.
These number do not show up in the AC Delco to GM parts number conversion book, so no AC Delco rebuild kit is available. I went to the Hollander Interchange and no such numbers in there for GM cars or trucks thru 1975. I don't think this is a GM carb, it may be a marine or generator carb but you may also have a remanufactured carb made up of several carbs.
Milo Sep 10th, 99, 10:32 AM Sorry, I should have mentioned the engine is from a '67 Chevelle, but I don't know where the carb came from. If it matters, it does say Rochester Quadrajet on the bottom left side. Maybe I would be better off just purchasing a new carb instead of messing with this one.
Gene Chas Sep 10th, 99, 12:48 PM Milo, the ID #'s if they exist on your carb would be stamped on either the left or right side of the rear of the housing just above the bolt holes. They're vertical. Of course, it could be a "bastard" carb of different pieces too as elcamino said. Gee, why not waste the $9 and buy a rebuild kit for a 67 Chevelle and pay close attention to the gaskets. Most other internals are probably not all that different.

Tom Mobley Sep 10th, 99, 5:58 PM Milo, if the Q-jet is a 67, the correct number will be on a round piece of tin about the size of a dime on the drivers side near the front, sort of above the idle speed screw. This is a stamped number, not a cast-in number. It's stamped in a circle pattern around the outside of the round piece of tin. Overall, Gene's right, just buy a kit for a 67 Chevelle with 327 4-bbl and compare the gaskets carefully.
