Is there a difference between the seatbelts in my 66ss, and ones from a 67 Pont. Lemans? I got a set out of a 67' that are the same color and the fronts that are in mine were not installed when I bought it in 93. They have since been lost or misplaced (I believe by the body shop who did the paint). I am refering to the fronts, thanks. Who sells seat belts? I would like the correct ones if these arent.

Thanks, Chris R.

Chris: This would be a great topic for a tech reference article! What I have found from cruising the salvage yards is that the belts tend to be "GM" branded and shared among divisions. I am sure that some detail oriented person could find the differences that you are looking for, but I think that most of us would not be able to tell the difference between one year and another. The differences seem to be the width of the buckles and blades, the choice between plastic and metal housings and the way that belts hook together (pretty obvious). The last item refers to the differences between the '72 belts and the earlier versions: '72 used a joined lap and shoulder belt, while '71 and earlier used one belt set for lap and another set for shoulder. Another variable is the use of retractors on the rear seat belts; some used these and some did not. No, I do not know which are who.

I am not 100% sure either. When I needed
belts for my 66 ss I got some from a friends 71 Monte parts car. They all had a blue GM
button in the middle of the clasp. When I removed the back seat, There was an old set still installed that had the Fisher body logo and they were the clam shell type clasp. I think these may have been original, so I mounted them in the front and put the GM ones in the back.
Any belt is better than no belt.

Currently running a full set of seat belts that I took out of a 66 Malibu for use in my 65. They are the clam shell style buckle, the plastic top matching the color of the belt with a GM logo molded into the centre and a chrome lower section. There is a color co-ordinated plastic molded cover over the stiched areas by the buckle. These were originals in the 66 donor. I do remember a article in a Chevy magazine a couple of years ago detailing the difference in buckle styles and these did not match anything in the article.

Could be a Canadian thing !!!

Hope this is of some help.
