I have my car stored in my garage over the winter and when I took the cloth cover off the interior had a fine coat of mold on it. Does anyone know a good way to prevent this? Also, what is the best method to clean it?

The mold is caused by stagent and moist air. Make sure your cover is an indoor dust cover that allows air to circulate. Then be sure to leave some the windows open. Here is a trick, place an open bag of regular Bar-B-Q charcoal on the back seat. Don't use the quick/self light kind for obivious reasons. The charcoal will absorb the moisture in the air and cut down on the mold.
You should be able to clean the mold off with mild soap and water.

Another way of keeping moisture out is to light a small lamp inside the car (if a cover is used on the car). This will raise the inside temperature just above ambient. This will prevent moisture from condensating.

Hope this helps.

what we do with our 67 SS Convert is leave it in the garage with the windows down and a portable 2' long flourescent light on the center console, keeps the temp up and prevents mold. When I did have a problem with mold I used some Oxy Clean stuff to get it out and it seemed to work pretty well.

I hope it didn't get into your climate control vents, might want to check that out.

what color is the exterior? Might just let it go if green interior wouldnt clash. Kind of a custom velour like interior provided by mother nature at no cost to you. A bargain when you look at what some of these guys are paying for custom interiors. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the responses. I will try the charcoal and probably the light also. The problem with Midnights idea is it also would turn the back of my clothes into "green velour".

Again, saving you money. Lots of guys at shows go out and buy shirts and such to match their car. Your dialed in bud, leave her be. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Seriously, I hadnt heard about the charcoal deal until this thread and sounds like a plan and a half. Gonna give that a try myself. That, and i'll fire up the hibachi in the backseat and BBQ on the weekends. Should keep it good until next season.

Hey Midnight, If you can get that charcoal to light after all winter of sucking up damp air you'll have a tip to pass on to the Bar-B-Q forum.
