I have a 72 chevelle, that I am in the process of installing a 454 with tall valve covers, the car originally had a 350 2 bbl in it, so, I removed all of the a/c parts from the firewall,,,and am looking for a regular heater box to put back in its place, does anyone know what year models will fit on the firewall...or have any other suggestions to cover the vent in the engine compartment...

The hole that is left in the firewall when the A/C is removed, will be much larger than the non A/C cover. Your best bet is to fabricate a cover. There have been several discussions on this. Do a search (at top of page).
Found this one, hope it will help. www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000183.html (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000183.html)

Firewalls are different in ac vs. non-ac vehicles.. the heater hose inlet/outlet are in a totally different location..

A clarification on what Mike Reeh says..

"..Firewalls are different in ac vs. non-ac vehicles.. the heater hose inlet/outlet are in a totally different location.."

Actually the firewalls are the SAME (shape/configuration). It's just that the holes cut into them are..
1. bigger.
2. in differing places than non A/C cars.

I know the difference in wording is slight. (NOT picking on you MIKE).. just clarifying http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

But what has been mentioned IS correct, a factory non A/C heater cover/box will NOT cover the larger hole(s) left in the firewall once occupied by the A/C box.

Either a custom metal cover can be made (ala heater heater delete style) or pieces of sheet metal can be welded in place so that a non A/C heater cover/box will THEN work.

Good luck. Len
