Hi All,

I am installing a new carpet from Year One in my '69 SS 4sp console car. I ordered the carpet that was for a "4 speed". The carpet appears to be molded for the large shifter hump that was present in bench seat 4sp cars.
Since I have a console car, the shifter hump is smaller. This has resulted in a lot of excess carpet around the shifter hump. Have any of you run into this problem. The excess material bulges out along the bottom of the console and doesn't look right.

Thanks!

Jeff

i have a 69 with a floor shifter and no console. the previous owner had cut the console down causing a similar problem with excess carpet. one of the guys recommended using a small steamer, it helped a lot. i think some heat will make it work a little better too. john

Carpets come one of two ways: With a console or without a console. Reason is, the sheet metal hump in the floor is different between cars with a console than without a console. The one without is larger than the other. If the carpet is "big" around the shifter, I would assume they sent you the wrong carpet. http://205.147.218.10/forum/frown.gif IF you didn't modify it, send it back and get the correct one for your application. Some vendors sell carpet that is precut around the console which makes the job easy. http://205.147.218.10/forum/smile.gif
