: Interior Plans
malibu man Dec 5th, 02, 4:33 PM I just got done taking all of the seats out and ripping all of the carpet and padding off the floor. Now I want some ideas and opinions as to what I should do with the interior. I was thinking about leaving the back seat out and putting buckets in front. Then I would either carpet everything up to the rear deck and filling the back with subs, or cut the metal divider between the interior and the trunk and put speakers or something in the back.
As you can tell i'm not going for a restoration look but just for something different. What would you people do?
Thanks

BB_Mike Dec 5th, 02, 9:06 PM Do like Dale. The Gr8t Pumpkin is one sweet ride. He devided his rear seat into two buckets and put in a custom devider. He also has a custom center consol that integrates into the front dash.
Match the seats with some custom door-panel stiching and your golden. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/cool.gif

malibu man Dec 10th, 02, 6:45 PM Who makes the custom dashes?
Does anyone know of any bucket seats that would interchange or work in our cars?

I designed it but had a custom upholstry shop in Duncan, OK. do the work. All of the buckets are from 86-88 Pontiac Grand Am cars. The rear buckets were a bear to level out and mount. The console is all handmade from pressed board and is built in-place. The PLexiglas panels were made by a sign shop in OKC. The console had to be built in the car for fit, then disassembled and taken to OKC and reassembled for the Plexiglas installation. Torn apart again and reassembled in the car. Only then could the carpets, door panels, etc be fitted and installed.
Cost wise, that's a challenge. Along with the upholstry and Plexiglas work (including the trunk), I bought an Ididit tilt column and the billet steering wheel, another amp and speaker (had the head unit) and had the power windows and remote door openers installed and wired (wires and relays are inside the console). The whole thing was about $8,000 but probably $2,000 of that was ~extras~ I'd added like the tilt column and extra stereo stuff - so I'd best guess it at around $6,000 for the interior work (and seats that had to be purchased) itself. What the cost does NOT include was the dash work, the gauges, the stereo head unit and the cost of the electronics (windows and doors) as I already had that stuff stock piled before the job was started.
I'm really happy with the results. Front seats are very comfortable (they both recline and the wife loves that!), they still have adjustment fore and aft and I have tons more storage space with the two console compartments than probably the law allows http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif It's no problem to take off for Kansas City (7.5 hrs) or Nashville (16 hrs or so) and not be overly tired when we get there.

leeds Dec 11th, 02, 12:57 PM the only thing I would be careful of is removing the divider between the trunk and back seat. This is a structural part of the car, if you were to get hit at the c pillar it would collapse like accordion. If you remove it you could brace it with nascar-type tubing
