Was there a separate Dash for a 70 SS with Rear Defrost? The switch and label are on the right side of the steering wheel, and it appears that the indicator plate (High and Low), are part of the dash panel.

Want to replace the dash panel and need to figure out what to do.

Same dash, just a hole for the switch. The switch front bezel has the writing on it.

Is the front bezel glued on, or does it come off when the switch is removed?

it comes off when the switch is removed. dont be suprised if the hole looks hand filed. not a perfect shape hole. cause thats what they did. just drolled and filled a hole in the dash. i believe they were all added at the dealer not the factory. hence the ugly hole.

FYI, My rear defroster was installed at the factory. I was at the dealer when my car was unloaded from the train. Watched them scratch the right front fender as it came down the ramp. It was already installed.

This was a factory installed option. My car has it. My build sheet shows the option.

If you look in your trusty GM assembly manual, which all Chevelle owners should have, there will be a drawing of the dash with measurements for the exact location of the hole giving you an idea of its shape & how to make it. The hole allows clearance for the body of the switch, and the bezel covers the edges of the hole. A bracket (similar to any Autometer gauge) held with two nuts, installs behind the dash to secure the bezel.
