: 69 Front seat belts/ console clips
Daytona Jeff Feb 11th, 05, 4:55 PM This has been bugging me for a while now. My car has the Small deluxe buckles and matching small retractor end. As far as I know they are original to the car. All of the console seatbelt clips I have seen are for the large buckles. What am I missing?
You can a pic of a set of deluxe belts in this link-------> http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?db=allyears&website=&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=3843&query=retrie val (http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?db=allyears&website=&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=3843&query=retrieval)
69ssmike Feb 11th, 05, 5:03 PM Maybe yours is a late 69 car??? Not sure when they changed to the small buckles? I thought in 70?

Bill Pritchard Feb 13th, 05, 10:47 AM Jeff,
To the best of my knowledge, a bucket seat & console equipped 69 convert would not have the small buckles. I think only bench seat cars got the small buckles for driver and outboard front passenger; center passenger got the standard size buckle. Our old 69 Impala convert had a bench seat and Deluxe belts, and that's the way it was set up.
I think the question is "What type of console clip was used in 69 with the deluxe belts?"
Right, Jeff?
I'm hearing Bill say that deluxe belts were not used with bucket and console "convertibles". What about sedans and hardtops?
69ssmike Feb 13th, 05, 9:36 PM I think he means the small buckles were used on bench seat cars only???
lemontcars Feb 13th, 05, 10:06 PM Jeff, I have a 70 with the dlx seat belts there were less than 800 chevelles built in 70 with those belts they were a option A39 I guess people just did not want spend extra $ on something they did not use anyway I would suspect the 69 year is about the same I know the 71 year they sold only 799 with dlx belts having said that I have never seen another 70 with dlx belts, I have a 70 SS with buckets and a console and I have the same belt holders thet all the other cars have I guess you could say that that is RARE option I hate to use that term but it is true in this case. Marty
lemontcars Feb 13th, 05, 10:58 PM Jeff, I just found where I saw the 69 option list if you have your old chevelle world mags.look at march/april 2001 page 28 shows dlx belts option A 39, shows a total of 789 chevelles that came with dlx belts. Marty
Daytona Jeff Feb 14th, 05, 8:06 AM Danny, That's what prompted my question. I've never seen a small clip on the consoles to fit the small buckles.
Bill, your explanation jives with the way my car was from the factory......bench seat...small buckles for driver and passenger and all the rest were large buckles. HMMMMM so to cover my tracks on the bench to buckets swap I would also need to swap out belts ;) What a tangles web we weave......
Marty, I remember seeing that issue and it would appear the deluxe belts were a pretty rare option.
Thanks guys....sounds like mystery solved for me.

You should have the one large 'female' buckle left over from the front bench seat center passenger position, so you should only need one more, along with a pair of retractors with the larger 'male' buckle.

Only bench seat cars, regardless of body style, got the smaller buckles with deluxe belts - and only for the driver and front seat outboard passenger's lap belts. The standard belts were all the larger style buckles, regardless of what type seats or body style.
This concludes today's lesson in Seat Belts 101. Class dismissed. Are we all confused now  graemlins/clonk.gif
Oh wait.....I got one of those dumb, last minute questions before class is dismissed.
Is the belt with latching mechanism considered to be the "buckle"? If so, what do they call the other belt? ;)

Would the buckle-e be the "female" and the buckler be the "male" or vice-e-verse-e? :D
