Me & my brother was talking about stall converters one day & we think that maybe we can make one by just cutting some off of one and welding it back togather making it 10 or 9inch, and making sure it is round.Did anyone do this or have some thinking on this???? P/S a big part of our LOVE of our chevelle's is figering out stuff like this and then putting it to work on our chevelle's!!!! THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!! Tim S

It's not just the size of the conv. but also a lot of variables inside of it.The vanes have to be angled right to achieve more stall along with stronger bearings and other internals. You'd be opening up a can of worms!(sorry).

New and marvelous things get invented this way by people who don't know that it won't work. Chet Herbert ground his first cam on a bench grinder(Harley). I wouldn't put too much effort into this one though.

This is what hot rodding is all about!!! At least it use to be. If you have the tools and the ideas... Try it! You'll find out if it works one way or the other. Good luck.

Hey Tim,

I don't see how you can change the diameter of the converter, but I have often thought about changing the stall R.P.M. of a converter by cutting it open and changing the angle of the fins (by simply bending them), like GER does with the crap (I mean converters) they sell!
I say, if you got the guts, and you're not worried about causing problems due to being out of balance, open up that can of worms and see what happens!...and keep us posted!
